Shopping for hair extensions can be a bit confusing, especially when you’re not clued up on what to go for. Knowing the difference between real and synthetic hair is a good first step in deciding which extensions are right for you. Here at Milk + Blush we use Grade A Remy Human Hair but we still want to give you all the info, so you know you’re making the right choice.
Human Hair Extensions  —closure weave
The main difference between human and synthetic hair is that human hair looks and feels exactly like your natural hair. The type of hair we use at Milk + Blush is Grade A Remy Human Hair, which is the best quality. It’s collected in a ponytail so that all the hair follicles run in the same direction which means that it’s less prone to tangling and is super soft and shiny. It can be heat styled, toned and dyed just like your hair and will respond in the same way. Real hair is also great if you have unusual or brightly coloured hair as you can dye them to match. Remy Human hair extensions can last over a year too, if you care for them properly.

Synthetic Hair —brazilian hair weave
Synthetic hair is often a lot cheaper than real hair extensions, meaning it’s great if you’re on a budget and you want a quick fix. This is definitely reflected in the quality and longevity of the hair though. Synthetic hair is improving all the time but it’s generally not as easy to work with as real hair. The highest grade synthetic hair is made of Toyokalon; a synthetic, PVC fibre that is the most realistic and allows for heat styling. This can be just as expensive as real hair though. Other synthetic hairs can be made out of polyester, which melts if you heat style it or monofilament which is also used to make fishing rod wire. Glam fact for you.
The problem with synthetic hair is that it doesn’t quite mimic your natural hair texture and often looks super shiny and plastic in comparison. This makes it harder for you to get a smooth blend and a natural finish. Some synthetic hair has a memory too, so it’s either permanently straight or curly making it even harder to blend and restrictive styling wise. Synthetic hair extensions normally last around 3 months.
We hope you found this useful and that you feel a bit more clued up on the difference. If you have any more questions on the hair we use in our Ghairs human hair extensions pop them in the comments box and we’ll get back to you asap.
